Classic charm meets modern beach breeziness at The Sand Dollar, a chic, second-story 1BR/1.5BA apartment in the heart of Gulfport’s vibrant Waterfront District.
With a parlor-style living space and private, tropical patio, there’s no shortage of spaces to relax. And you’ll do so in style: preserved Shaker touches and cool coastal décor offer the ideal blend of laid-back beach vibes and old-school Florida elegance.
Venture out and find yourself at the center of a vibrant community, where you’ll fill your days with farmer’s markets or music festivals. Spend afternoons in the surf and evenings at diverse waterfront restaurants. It’s all here in Gulfport, a funky little community tucked within St. Pete.
A DAY AT THE SAND DOLLAR
Wake up in a king-size bedroom with airy coastal accents to remind you that you’re on beach time. The en-suite master bath with a walk-in shower is great for refreshing for the day ahead or washing off the sand from your latest adventure.
Swing open the French doors to the living space, then grab a book or admire the treetop views from the cozy sofas. If you need a minute to check in with the real world, steal away to catch up on emails at the corner desk (free WiFi is also included).
Additional guests can use the main en-suite bathroom and convenient half-bath off the downstairs laundry room. A queen-size EZ bed is also available if you’re bringing a crew of four.
Suited for prepping everything from beach picnics to gourmet cuisine, the kitchen is equipped with a full suite of appliances and all the pots, pans, and dishes you’d find at home.
Shake a margarita and sip it in the upstairs sunroom, or prep feasts and share them in your private outdoor yard. This tropical-inspired space is draped by an enormous sail shade to keep afternoon gatherings cool—have a long lunch at the outdoor table, then recoup on the loungers or hammock.
WHY WE LOVE THE SAND DOLLAR
Its own hidden hangout in the midst of the Waterfront District, the Sand Dollar offers low-key relaxation to balance out Gulfport’s energy and excitement.
We love its quaint charm as much as we love its proximity to fun and funky downtown, home to mouthwatering dining establishments, unique art galleries, and a full line-up of events. Visit during GeckoFest, a circus-inspired street event with chill tunes and can’t-miss costumes, or catch a bi-weekly ArtWalk.
For some time in the great outdoors, take your four-legged family member on a stroll to the dog park, or peddle your way down the Pinellas Bike Trail. The Sand Dollar is just a short trip from Stetson School of Law and Eckerd College, making it ideal for families making a visit to campus.

Awesome little one bedroom located near bars and restaurants, easy access, all walking distance. This was a perfect space for my boyfriend, myself, and our small dog. Perfect place to stay for a few days to check out the west coast, I would definitely recommend this place!

The unit was nice and well laid out. Location was OK, walking the back lane after dark does require a flashlight, fortunately the cell phone does well. I will add that although it is technically a couple blocks from the beach, it is not a beach you can use due to sea grass and a high tide that covers the sand to the seawall.
There is no real view from the property due to treas and other houses, but it is a garage apartment, so I was not expecting much.
Local swim and sun beaches are 20-45 min's drive time.
The local food is very good mostly, and there are several fine pubs and dining locations within a short walk. I don't recommend sitting on the street side tables, we were bothered by drunks on two occasions.
Safety and security are OK, but there is no smoke alarm that I saw in the laundry room and the bed room fire escape stair is rusted out with noticeable holes in several treads. We did find a fire extinguisher in a closet in the last day while looking for a vacuum.

Note for property manager: recommend you contact the local fire inspector for a walk through to ensure all codes are met. Also, the tax/license card in the guest binder is for the other property, the Dolphin House.

Very well-run operation. Clean, well-appointed, easy check-in/access. Location has that perfect balance of closeness to waterfront bars/restaurants and quiet off-street privacy. We have stayed in many rental units in Gulfport and this one ranks as one of our favorites. Thanks for an enjoyable vacation experience!

We really enjoyed our time at the Sand Dollar. We were visiting my daughter at Eckerd College in St. Pete and Gulfport is a nice alternative to the busy St. Pete Beach area. It's great to be able to walk around town and we especially appreciated how dog-friendly the place is. Sand Dollar was the perfect size for a couple and one small dog, with a nice restful gated yard to enjoy. It had everything we could want or need and was very comfortable and clean.

I'm not sure I could recommend this for more than 2 or maybe 3 people, as the second bed is a sofa bed and the only bath is off of the bedroom, but for a couple, it was wonderful. We'll definitely try to stay again sometime!

We had a wonderful stay at Sand Dollar apt. It was a hidden gem in the quaint town of Gulfport, Fl. I grew up here and love to come back to visit. It is in a great location with easy access to many places. I found it to be clean and well stocked with almost everything you could need. There are many great restaurants in the area. I love Habana Cafe which is right down the street. I hope we can come back for another stay!

All was neat and tidy, clean, plenty of towels, pillows, and the kitchen was very well equipped on this self catering unit. Loved the added security of being able to close the driveway gates at night.

A private and well appointed living area located on the second floor behind the primary home with a privacy fence and large courtyard to park your car and relax outdoors. Located in a quaint neighborhood with the friendly Gulfport community only a block away.

It was great having all the kitchen stocked with utensils and everything else. Very private driveway and plenty of parking. If you want a place with character, this is the perfect place. Close to the water and beach St.

We flew into Orlando and drove to Gulfport at night. It was a little tricky to find the place because of the alleys, but after that everything was great. It was very nice to have the keypad on the door. We also had everything we needed. We were in town for the Grand Prix, so we were close enough to downtown to easily drive or Uber. A couple nights we ate on the strip a few blocks away. It was a much more relaxing experience than a hotel! Everything else from the weekend was great and if we do come back again, we'll likely look this place up first! Thanks!

We keep coming back to the Sand Dollar. It's the perfect place for the two of us and our dog. Bright and airy, private fenced back yard. Only a block from the water front and from the downtown area. Art walks, Fresh Markets, cute restaurants and coffee places. Fully furnished, everything you need in the kitchen and laundry room. Always clean when we arrive, owners are so friendly and willing to do what ever we need to make our stay perfect - great customer service. A+ rental!

I have never rented a property before, and I must say that my experience at the Sand Dollar for my wife's 30th Birthday was fantastic! The property was clean and located in a great location near the waterfront, beach area, and restaurants. We brought along our dog, which made for a great trip as many locations in St. Pete are dog friendly. I highly recommend taking your pet to Del Soto Dog Beach, which is about 25 minutes away from the Sand Dollar. The instructions and App provided by the management company were very useful to insure we would have a great stay. We hope to book the property in the future.

The Sand Dollar is a great rental. We stayed here before a few times several years ago. Great location. Bathroom has been updated and new appliances in the kitchen.

We were fairly fairly happy with the place. Quaint, artsy part of town. Driving distance to beaches, shopping, etc. The place itself needed a real good housecleaning though. Had been just surface cleaned so was due for some real good cleaning. Sofa bed needs replacing.

Bringing pets on vacation is almost impossible nowadays due to the limited accommodations catering to them, but this short-term rental property solves all of your problems. Having 3 dogs ourselves, it was the first time we were able to bring them with us. Not having to worry about who will take care of them while we are away meant the world to us and Beth (the property manager) even waived the pet fee for our 15-lb. dog! The location is a block away from O' Maddy's and Salty's, there's ballroom dancing during the weekends at the Gulfport Casino and then the beach! The place was fantastic and I cannot rave about it enough. We plan on coming back soon.

What a wonderful, super comfortable apartment! Great location in a quiet neighborhood just two blocks from restaurants and shops! Love the king size bed and walk-in closet. The bathroom has a cart where you can put all your toiletries, so the sink doesn't get cluttered. A very well stocked kitchen is perfect for preparing meals. Chairs, tables, a hammock, and a grill are outside in a lovely outdoor space. There is also a washer and dryer downstairs. I hope to return because it was just lovely!
Quiet, comfortable, lovely! We had a wonderful time at Sand Dollar. The property is charming and has everything you could need. Great location, close to the art district. When we weren't at the beach, we were walking the neighborhood with our dog who was welcomed at many businesses and restaurants. Look forward to visiting again.

We stayed at the Sand Dollar for 7 days in April - first time in Gulfport. It is a nice area mostly for adults wo children. The city is relaxing with few bars and places to eat out. the Sand Dollar was a niice place to stay. It is a decent size with fully equipped kitchen, living room, bedroom with pretty comfortable king size bed and bathroom. We traveled with a small dog as they allowed small pets. There were couple of nights when neighbors were loud outside but overall we did have a good time. We stayed at Pass A Grill before and the beach at the Pass a Grill was nicer but it was almost impossible to find anything unbooked the week we needed also Pass a Grill is more expensive. We would consider to come back.
Stayed 6 days in April, 2015
When we first pulled in we were a little worried that it wss not in a safe area because of the houses next to us. But it turned out to be o.k.Close to the town and the beach. House was very equipped with items we needed.
Stayed 2 days in April, 2015
It was nice - full kitchen, though we didn't really need it for a 2 night stay. Loved the location to the shops/restaurants as well as the beach. Was nice to have beach toys for the kids. My only criticism (and this is due to me being new to Home Away) is the many instructions we were given. Unsure if that's unique to this property or for all properties. It kind of takes away from the vacation aspect a bit.....
Stayed 7 days in February, 2015
Photos accurately reflect the property. Plenty of room for the 2 of us. Lots of small, thoughtful details throughout. Bright kitchen, well equipped. Property manager extremely responsive to questions/needs. Went above and beyond to get us the waiver to use the bikes, a nice amenity. Definitely an "old Florida" style area. Relaxed and safe neighborhood--this property much nicer than many others. Gulfport is in a central location to visit surrounding areas. Loved the music at the Sea Hag, Treasure Island; Frenchy's in Clearwater, sunsets at Brass Monkey in Pass-a-Grille. Chihuly museum (art glass) in downtown St Pete well worth a visit. Thanks for everything!

This is our 4th year staying at the Sand Dollar and once again it was wonderful. Very clean, with everything you need to just "move in" and enjoy your stay. The main street is just a block away, you can walk to any number of fantastic restaurants, weekly fresh market, Art Walk and so much more. Cozy, clean and inviting - the Sand Dollar is the perfect place to enjoy your Gulfport getaway. I would highly recommend renting this cute place, and Splashy Ventures is always ready to make it a welcome place for you. Plus the pet friendly and private back yard is perfect for traveling with the fur kids!

Our recent stay at The Sand Dollar put us in the heart of the arts district in this wonderful, old time Florida town. The garage apartment was nicely remodeled retaining many original architectural features. The lay out of the apartment was very nice for two adults, but the sofa bed could accomodate another adult or child. The bathroom is accessible through the bedroom. The bed is super comfy - very nice king size. The linens do need some updating. The bathroom is tight with no counter space. The shower is large and water pressure is good. The shower floor does need a good scrubbing.
The kitchen is separated from the main living area by a foyer and can be closed off from the sleeping area. Appliances are nice, but no dishwasher. All other needs for cooking are provided. The dining area is adjacent to the kitchen and is very cozy. Love the "built-in " ironing board.
The a/c is central and works well. Management asks that windows not be opened.
The apartment entrance is up an outside flight of stairs and would not be suitable for handicapped. The yard is lovely, beautiful landscaping and privacy fence. The utility room is downstairs and has an onsite washer and dryer. Beach chairs are in the utility room The "second" bathroom is in the utility room - only a toilet. Parking is tight and requires backing in and out of an alley with a garge across the street. Check with the owner if you have a large vehicle for optional parking.
The neighbor's dog is an alarm clock set for 5:30 am. But he is only noisy for a few minutes. We had to get going early anyway.
Signs and notes are left everywhere about keeping the unit clean. The "cleaners" have a limited list of chores they will provide. We stripped the bed and started the load of towels before leaving. Also, washed all dishes and dried and put them away. The cleaning fee is a bit high, but it wasn't a big deal.
I would recommend this property if you are looking for a lot of privacy and a comfortable

We rented the Sand Dollar at the last minute because our previous rental was accidentally overbooked. Beth was great at getting us booked and reserved in a days time. The rental was small but quaint. Nothing fancy, but just enough for a family of 5 (3 kids ages 6,4 & 2 mos). My oldest 2 bunked out on the "springy" pull out sofa (luckily they're not fussy about those things) and my husband and I slept comfortably on the king bed. The laundry facilities were just fine but the stairs were a bit taxing in 92 degree weather. We attempted the beach just a block away on our first day. As native Floridians we were less than impressed with it. Extremely shallow, dirty and HOT. I guess late August is not ideal for Gulfport beach. We opted to drive to Madiera and Treasure Island the rest of the time. Had I known of Gulfports beach condition we would have stayed elsewhere. We enjoyed Johns Pass and ate only once at O'Maddys. The food was good and the staff very pleasant. If I had to do it over I would have stayed in Madiera beach, but that's just a preference and not a reflection on the Sand Dollar. Otherwise, we felt Gulfport was cute, quiet and pleasant. The ability to text any problems and concerns was convenient but it sometimes took an hour or more for a response. It did, however, make check out a breeze. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, dishes, etc. I overlooked the fact that it didn't have a dishwasher, so that was a drag. We did request an air mattress when my nephew came to stay a night but the pump was broken and we had to bunk my middle child with us. We were given a new one the following night. All in all, the Sand dollar was just fine for a family getaway.

We spent many hours searching for the right property to stay at for our 10 day vacation in Florida. We found the sand dollar and was very impressed with the location and size of the house for our small family of three. It is exactly what is described. A 5 min walk to Gulfport beach which was so quiet almost a private beach which we loved!! We also spent many days on the gorgeous St.Petes beach which is a 10 min drive and from the sand dollar. The house is clean, comfortable, wifi and cable were great! The large king size bed was a dream to sleep on. Everything you need is in the house! We loved that it was quiet and not a party place as we went with our almost 2 year old son. I would recommend the Sand Dollar to anyone looking for a great beach vacation. We also went to Busch Gardens only 30 mom drive, Disney World which is 1.5 hours and a Tampa Rays baseball game, only 10 min from the house! We can't wait to go back to the Sand Dollar!!

Its smaller than the photos lead on but it was amazing!
Makes sure you read the whole packet of information the renter sends to make sure you park at the right house. Fully functional kitchen (pots, pans, cookware, towels, some seasonings, etc.)
Close to a beach recreational area but we spent most of our days driving to the beach (10 minutes away) I recommend a steak house (1200 chophouse) if you are looking for amazing food, great wine, and great service. Get there early and with an empty stomach (large portions and they WILL have a wait)
Doors have access codes to enter and exit.
Very secure location.
Very comfortable bed
Nice shower

My children and I had a very nice stay at the Sandollar. It was very nicely decorated, modern and had the Florida/beach appeal. The Sandollar is very convenient to many locations. We visited the area for a vacation for the beaches and it was nicely located near many, including a one minute evening walk from a local beach. The owners were incredibly helpful, and very responsive to any need. We would definitely stay there again! Thank you Beth!!!!!

The directions to get to the Sand Dollar were very accurate. After a few times we learned how to get in and out of the parking lot. The house had all the amenities that were promised and they all worked well ( plumming, WiFi, shower, washer and dryer) The house could use a bit of paint on the inside, the woodwork is somewhat damaged over the years and the kitchen could use an update, a dishwasher would be nice. Gulfport Beach was very close by and not to busy. Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday.

Spent a week in the apartment...great location to restaurants and shops, enjoyed relaxing and a drink at Maddy's, was lucky enough to be there at the Saturday market, ate a great breakfast at Stella's. We just returned from a nice stay at the Sand Dollar- neighborhood is very quiet and relaxed. Enjoyed downtown dinning @ O'Maddys and the Tuesday market is full of unique items to the area. Close to the bay with beautiful sunriuses/sunsets. Due to the weather, we did travel south most days to find warmth- but Gulfport gave us sunshine almost everyday. Nice vaca if you are looking for peace and quiet.

We have been staying at the Sand Dollar for the past few years and love every minute of it. The neighborhood is quiet, but so close to so many great Gulfport shops, restaurants and events. Plus the parks and water front are only a short walk away.
The "Dollar" is always clean, comfortable and well stocked (towels, bedding, appliances.) Plus having the fenced back yard is great for our dog and for enjoying a private and quiet afternoon sitting in the sun and reading or playing a game.
We look forward to our return each year. And working with Beth and Sally make everything run smoothly. A+

The Sand Dollar is a lovely place with nice big rooms that help you relax. It's down a bit of a back alley with no views to talk of so we didn't feel like sitting outside or using the BBQ in the yard. It's well equipped but a lot of the utensils, towels and linen are a bit tired and spare bed linen would have saved us having to do laundry and ironing during our holiday. It's beautifully laid out and the coffee maker and bikes are nice touches. I punctured a tyre on a bike and informed the owner who sent a hyperlink to a repair shop but there was no other contact even when we left; I wondered if someone might have popped by during a 17 day stay but that's not a big deal. We had a really nice time in the Sand Dollar and found Gulfport to be really laid back and hospitable. O'Maddys rightly gets loads of plaudits the Habana Cafe was also wonderful. Boyd Falls Park and De Soto Park were great trips and we enjoyed a long cycle along Pinellas Trail - what a great use of an old railway line. The whole beachline is awesome.
